Guide, mentor and inspire students with your M.Ed. Degree in School Counseling.

FSU’s Master of Education in School Counseling Program is committed to educating students in three broad areas: Knowledge, Skills and Personal Awareness. You will become certified to work as school counselor at the elementary, middle and secondary levels. The degree offers flexibility in other areas of employment as well in careers such as admissions counselors, behavioral specialists, Head Start Family Engagement Coordinator and various other positions in social service and educational organizations.

School Counseling Concentration Highlights

  • Enroll with or without a background in teacher education. You can finish the program successfully and will be qualified for certification in Maryland as K–12 school counselors.

  • Participate in a program that follows the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) standards for school counseling in the curriculum.

  • Complete no less than 500 hours of internship.

  • Choose to study full- and part-time. (Semesters of internship will require full-time commitment.)

In Maryland, students who successfully complete the program are eligible for certification at the elementary, middle and secondary levels.
